Organic molecules contain carbon atoms. Carbon with a valency of 4 electrons can create four bonds in accordance with the octet rule. It can form single, double, triple bonds by sharing its valence electrons. It can form ring structures like in benzene. Carbon is capable of forming alcohols, ethers, acids, esters, Ketones, aldehydes which are not possible by other atoms in periodic table. This is the reason organic chemistry is also called Carbon Chemistry or Chemistry of Carbon compounds

In nutrition, they study how to maintain health wellness and study the effects of nutritional deficiencies. In agriculture, biochemists investigate soil and fertilizers, and try to discover ways to improve crop cultivation, crop storage and pest control.

Session on Stereochemistry of Organic Compounds

The study of stereoisomers  is stereochemistry. It is seen in biological, physical, organicinorganic and especially supramolecular chemistry. Stereochemistry plays a very vital role in our day to day life. Stereochemistry is the chemistry which deals with the different arrangement of atoms or groups in a molecule in space. The only physical property in which the two types of tartarate salts differed, is due to optical isomerism. Structural Isomers are isomers which have the same molecular formula but differ in their structures. The list of different types of structural isomers is position isomer, chain Isomers, metamerism, and functional Isomers. Stereoisomers are isomers which have the same molecular formula and same structure but differ in the arrangement of atoms or groups in space. Stereoisomers can be classified into the following two types  Configurational Isomers and Conformational Isomers

Session on Phytochemistry and Pharmacognosy

The study of phytochemicals (chemicals which are derived from plants ) is Phytochemistry. Those who are studying phytochemistry try to describe the structure of large number of secondary metabolic compounds present in plants, the role of these compounds in human and plant biology, and the biological synthesis of these compounds. Plants make phytochemicals for various reasons like protecting themselves from insects attack and diseases. Phytochemicals that are present in edible plants are often active in human biology. In several cases they show  health benefits. The compounds found in plants are many types, but they all fall into these four major biochemical classes which are alkaloids, polyphenols, glycosides and terpenes.

While the study of drugs with medicinal properties that are derived from natural sources like plants is Pharmacognosy, which properly means "the study of the chemical, physical, biochemical and biological properties of drugs, drug substances or drug substances or potential drugs of natural origin as well as the discovery of new drugs from natural sources". It is also termed as study of crude drugs.

Phytochemistry is the sub-fields of chemistry or botany. Activities can be led in the wild or botanical gardens with the aid of ethno-botany. Techniques used in the field of phytochemistry are isolation, extraction and structural elucidation of natural products, as well as various chromatography techniques (HPLC, MPLC and LC-MS)

A cyclic organic compound containing all carbon atoms in ring formation is referred to as a carbocyclic compound. If at least one atom other than carbon forms a part of the ring system then it is designed as a hetero cyclic compound. Nitrogen, oxygen and sulfur are the most common heteroatoms but heterocyclic rings containing other hetero atoms are also widely known. An enormous number of heterocyclic compounds may be classified into aliphatic and aromatic. Heterocyclic ring may comprise of three or more atoms which may be saturated or unsaturated. Also the ring may contain more than one hetero atom which may be similar or dissimilar.
