Organometallic Chemistry

Organometallic chemistry is the study of compounds having one bond between a carbon atom of an organic compound and a metal, inclusive of alkaline, alkaline earth, transition metal, and other cases. Organometallic compounds are largely used in research and industrial chemical reactions as catalysts to increase the rates of reactions, used in homogeneous catalysis where target molecules are polymers, pharmaceuticals, and many other types of practical products. Organic group can be bound in one way or the other, to almost all the elements in the periodic table and potentially therefore the number of organometallic compounds is almost unlimited.
