Fundamental Concepts of Organic Chemistry
Organic molecules contain carbon atoms. Carbon with a valency of 4 electrons can create four bonds in accordance with the octet rule. It can form single, double, triple bonds by sharing its valence electrons. It can form ring structures like in benzene. Carbon is capable of forming alcohols, ethers, acids, esters, Ketones, aldehydes which are not possible by other atoms in periodic table. This is the reason organic chemistry is also called Carbon Chemistry or Chemistry of Carbon compounds.
